01) TELL US HOW YOU STRATED THE ¨ONE MAN ¨BAND PROJET ?

I started this project in December of 2019. That's when I started writing the "Forgotten Paths" EP anyway. I had been messing around with some more Death Metal oriented stuff for about a year prior, but I couldn't really come up with anything I liked enough to release until Forgotten Paths. At the time, I didn't really know anybody else who was interested in starting a Black Metal band so I just decided to try and do it all myself.

02) WHY THE NAME ¨ALGHOL ¨?

Alghol is a reference to "Algol", which is a star, also known as "The Demon Star". I came across the name in the Lovecraft story "Beyond the Wall of Sleep" and thought that would be a cool name for the project. I did a quick google search and found a few other bands called "Algol" so I added a silent "h" in the middle of mine and called it good haha. The name definitely has had a major influence on the lyrical content of the project though.

03) HOW DO YOU DEFINE ¨ALGHOL´S ¨MUSICALITY ?

It's just my version of Black Metal. I don't think it really fits into any single subgenre or anything like that. The sound definitely draws a lot of influence from those classic Second Wave Scandinavian bands, but I pretty much just write stuff that I would want to listen to.

04) WHAT`S THE MESSAGE BEHIND YOUR LYRICS?

The lyrics are all just horror and dark fantasy based stories. I always really loved the storytelling King Diamond does, and then also the world building type stuff Ghoul does, so it's my attempt to emulate that in a Black Metal setting. I never really cared for any of the ideological or spiritual or political aspects of Black Metal, so I'm not interested in writing any lyrics like that. I also don't really take my stuff too seriously. I'm not using this music as a vessel for any sort of message. If anything, the music is rooted in escapism. I just want to make something that you can put on, crack a beer, and immerse yourself in for a solid 40 or so minutes while you tune out the real world. Everybody needs a break now and again.

05) WHAT MERCHANDISE DO YOU STILL HAVE AVAILABLE ?

Right now the biggest thing I'm trying to push is the Tapes and CDs of my new album "Night Eternal". They're both super sick, and it's my first professionally done self release. I've done some hand dubbed runs, but these things are legit. The tapes have double sided, full UV printed shells, a 12 page J-Card, and a pretty rad slip case, and then the CD's are in a Jewel Case with a 12-page booklet. The layouts on them were done by my friend Adam Paris who did an amazing job. The artwork is also incredible. My friend Logan Hamilton does all my artwork and he does a great job every time. The vinyl copies are amazing, but they're sold out from myself and the label is getting low on stock, and I think I've got a couple of each shirt design left in stock too, but that's about it. I know there's all sorts of patches and stickers and stuff on my bandcamp as well.

06) COMMENT ABOUT ALBUM: THE OSSEOUS KEY ?

"The Osseous Key" was my first full length album, and also what I feel is the first release that really showcased what I wanted to do with Alghol. The production was a little cleaner than my first releases, the riffs were a little bitter, the synths were a little spookier, and it was also the first release to have a cohesive storyline spanning the album. It's actually part 1 of what is going to be a trilogy of albums, with "Night Eternal" being part 2, and then the album I'm writing now will be the final part and will wrap up the storyline started in "The Osseous Key".

07) TELL US ABOUT THE ALBUM: NIGHT ETERNAL ?

"Night Eternal" is my most recent album. I'm super pleased with how it all came together. My goal with each new release is to progress in some aspect and try to improve on what I did in the previous album, and I think I managed to pull that off here. I wanted to step up the guitar work a little bit on this album and add in some more Dissection-esq guitar harmonies. I'm also always striving to improve the production and overall sound. As far as the storyline goes, it's a sequel to "The Osseous Key", but definitely it's own adventure. Overall, I think it's my best work to date, and I highly recommend everyone go check it out.

08) YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS OF ¨ALGHOL¨?

Yeah absolutely haha. I never thought it would have gone as far as it has, so I've already exceeded my own expectations haha.

09) FUTURE PLANS...

I'm gearing up to start writing and recording my next album. I've also been toying with the idea of potentially getting a live band together to do some one-off gigs here and there. Not sure where that will lead, but it could be some fun!

10) THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT. ANY LAST COMMENTS ?:

Thanks for the opportunity to do this interview! And for everyone reading, go grab yourself a cold beer, crack it open, and toss on "Night Eternal"!
